Privacy Policy

This policy covers getroofreport.com, the roof tools on it, the RoofReport plugin for ChatGPT and Claude, and the GetRoofReport data API. It explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how to reach us.

What we collect on the website

Analytics and advertising tags. The live site loads these third-party tags, which use cookies, browser storage and similar technologies to measure visits and ad performance:

• Google Tag Manager, which loads Google Analytics 4.
• Google Ads conversion tracking.
• Meta Pixel.
• PostHog, which records pageviews, clicks and other interactions, and records sessions. It stores an identifier in a cookie and in your browser's local storage.
• Microsoft Clarity, which records how pages are used.

These tags collect information such as the pages you view, the links and buttons you click, your browser and device type, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and the site that referred you.

Session recordings. PostHog session recordings mask what you type into form fields, with one exception: the property address lookup box. An address you type there can appear in a recording.

Address lookups. When you search for a property, the text you type is sent to our server to find matching addresses.

Browser storage set by the site. The site saves a few settings in your browser: your light or dark theme, which homepage option you were shown, whether you have already seen a roof notice, and where to send you after an address search. These stay on your device and hold no personal details.

Roof visualizer and estimator

The roof visualizer and the roof estimator are provided by RoofKit and are embedded on our pages. Photos, contact details and quote requests you enter in them go to RoofKit, and may be passed on to partner roofing contractors so they can respond to you. GetRoofReport does not receive the photos you upload. RoofKit's handling of this information is governed by its own privacy policy at roofkit.ai.

Property data

The roof and property reports come from public records: county building permits and property appraiser data, FEMA flood maps, and NOAA storm history. This data describes properties, not visitors. It does not include owner names or contact details.

RoofReport plugin for ChatGPT and Claude

• The plugin receives only what you ask it to look up: a property address, and optionally a home size and a shingle brand, product line or color.
• It does not receive your name, email address, phone number or chat history, and it has no user accounts.
• ChatGPT sends an anonymized user identifier. We use it only to apply a per-user rate limit, held in a counter that expires after about a minute. It is not stored.
• Usage records keep the tool name, the time and whether the request succeeded. They do not keep the address.
• Technical request logs record the time, the requested URL and the IP address, for security and debugging.
• In ChatGPT, the roof visualizer and estimator can open inside the chat. They are the same RoofKit tools described under Roof visualizer and estimator.

Data API

Business customers access property data with an API key. We store only a hashed form of each key, and we record usage per key for metering.

How we use information

• To run the site, answer address lookups and return property reports.
• To understand how the site is used and improve it.
• To measure and improve our advertising.
• To meter API usage and apply rate limits.
• To keep the service secure and fix problems.

Who we share it with

We share information with the companies that provide the tags and services described above: Google, Meta, PostHog, Microsoft and RoofKit. RoofKit may pass the details you enter in its tools to partner roofing contractors. The whole service runs on Cloudflare, which processes IP addresses to deliver and protect it. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

• Plugin and API usage records: up to about 90 days.
• Technical request logs: a few days.
• Plugin rate-limit counters: about a minute.
• Analytics, advertising and session recording data: kept by each provider under its own retention settings.
• Settings saved in your browser: until you clear them.

Your choices

• You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings.
• You can control Google ad personalization at Google Ad Settings.
• You can control Meta ad personalization in your Meta ad preferences.
• You can ask us questions about your information, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@getroofreport.com.

Children

The site and its tools are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the date above.
